“Alaska is the only state to have coastlines on three different bodies of water: the Arctic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, and the Bering Sea.”

National Geographic Kids, 5,000 Awesome Facts

Alaska, with 66,000 miles, has the longest coastline in the Nation. But it also has many other bodies surrounding it, such as the Beaufort Sea and the Chukchi Sea. I wonder why they weren’t mentioned.

Monaco has the shortest coastline at 3.5 miles.

What is a coastline? A coastline is where the body of water meets the land. Other terms for it, or synonyms are bank, beach, seaboard, shore and shoreline.

I think it sounds better when saying “I’m going to the beach” rather than “I’m going to the coastline.”

I’m trying to think of more things to add to this awesome fact but I’m at a loss. Well I found this;

“In general, the coastline length of islands that are part of a country, but are not overseas territories, are included in the coastline estimate for that country.” That would make sense for Alaska, being the biggest state and and the many islands incorporated with Alaska.

I think that Charley Waffle would get tired on the Alaska coastline but might do all right with the one in Monaco! Me too. Probably a bit warmer as well.
