“There’s a GIANT STATUE of a SLOTH in MIAMI, FLORIDA, U.S.A., that is nearly as big as a TWO-STORY building.”
National Geographic Kids, 5,000 Awesome Facts, 2015, sloth fact 23
In the 1960’s a sculptor by the name of Jules Canisalle sculpted a 15 foot tall statue of a slot made of concrete and wire mesh.
It was initially located at the Miami Science Museum but after the closing of that facility it’s fate was unknown. It was believed that it was going to Omni Park, FL, but ended up being bought by Adam Gersten, owner of GRAMPS BY THE SEA, 341 N.W. SOUTH RIVER DRIVE on the Miami River, a 100 seat bar and grill.
It is considered somewhat of an icon according to the New Times’ weirdest Miami landmarks in 2013.
