This early morning we were doing our daily little walk and run and went up to the University where there is a lot of open fields and the quad is free from students at that time. There is a pretty fountain that is always spurting water which Charley finds quite entertaining, but not as entertaining as the bunnies that sprout up here and there. She finds those extremely intriguing. And fun. No, she does not hurt them, she just likes to wake them up and say hi.
Anyway, we (Charley & I) saw these 2 adorable pugs that were off leash, and in front of them was this probably mid 30’s guy who was sprinting across the quad as these two little short squats came running after him. They were obviously having fun. It was absolutely adorable. I had no idea that pugs could run that fast. They even caught air a few times.
They ended up in the big field that is on the campus where there is a lot of grass on about an acre of lawn. All three of them (the 2 dogs and owner) were running around having the best time while we just stood and watched for a minute. Charley wanted to run and join but I wanted to make sure it was ok with the pugs’ owner.
Before I knew it a Husky came up upon us and we were greeted with a long drawn out sound from the fluffy dog. I don’t know too much about Huskies but I could tell this one loved to talk. I’ve heard that is one of the favorite traits of this kind of breed.
Following behind was a smaller dog that looked like a mini-doodle, maybe a full poodle breed, I’m not quite sure.
Behind them was this cute little gal drinking a Red Bull and telling me how she decided to take them on an extra long walk this morning and ended up here.
I was told the Husky was 9, and the little guy was 12. They both acted like they were teenagers. Charley is 3 and 1/2. Of course I want my dog to live to be 12 and over, but I can’t help also feeling I don’t want her to get any older just because it kinda makes me sad.
At this point I felt it was ok to let Charley off her leash and let her run amongst her people.
She had a blast. It was a lot of fun.
Doggy unplanned play dates makes for a great unexpected morning. I am glad we ran across them. It definitely helped get out some of Charley’s Australian Shepard/Border Collie energy.
All in all it was a great morning and I am feeling very grateful for the experience. It’s sometimes the little things that can make a huge difference on how I feel and view things.
