This was somewhat embarrassing the other day as I was asked how my children were doing.

I replied, “One is shedding a lot, and the other just got fixed after 4 years.” I continued about those comments until I saw the look on the person’s face who asked me.

I suddenly realized they were asking about my human kids, who are 18 and 19, and really are busy doing their own thing.

I love my four children, both human and furry. My older kids are somewhat independent, even if they think they know everything, but Charley and Stella, who are 4 and 2 1/2, still depend on me more than my human kids do.

I see my pets as my kids I have realized. They may have helped with the feeling of emptiness while my children are growing up.

We laughed, but I want to say a big “sorry!” to my daughter and son. I love you both with all my heart, and you will always be my first.
