After my dentist visit, I learned they might remove all my bottom teeth to make a complete plate. I only have four healthy teeth on the bottom left, and they want to take those out too. I would like to keep any good teeth in my head. My teeth are fine, but my receding gums are affecting the bone and making my teeth loose.
They won’t be able to do a partial because there isn’t anything solid for it to be attached.
Good news, though. My top teeth are going to be saved. So, that’s a plus!
I went on to Reddit and checked out a few denture groups on there. All they talk about is dentures, show before and after pictures, and denture issues. Most people looked great in their afters, and expressed they were so glad they did it. They are so white and straight. One person got them too big, but he knew that and was asking what he should do. I found out they have to be refitted and re-aligned as the jaw changes. I hope I don’t get ones that are too big. They are supposed to hurt when you first get them, and take awhile to get used to. Everybody was different, though.
I did get a list of foods that aren’t recommended with dentures;
- Hard foods, such as nuts, popcorn, hard candies, raw carrots or celery
- Sticky foods; no caramel, taffy, gummies and PEANUT BUTTER.
- Tough meats – No steak, ribs or jerky
- Small, crumbly food; Seeds, granola, berries with seeds
- Spicy foods; chili peppers and hot sauce
- Acidic food; citrus fruits, tomatoes, vinegar
- Foods with large pieces; apples, pears, potatoes
- Avoid chewing gum
- Avoid hot liquids, such as coffee or tea!! Ugh.
I’m not sure what is left that I will be able to eat. Ice cream seems to be o.k. That’s good. I’ll figure it out.
Oh well, it’s not the end of the world. I’m healthy and grateful. And Charley won’t notice anyway.
